AUDITION NOTICE 2024-2025
Sonoma Arts Live Theater Company is accepting virtual submissions for our 2024-2025 season!
Please submit:
1. A self-tape/recording of a short monologue, no more than 2 minutes.
2. If you’d like to be considered for a musical, record 36 bars of a song that highlights your range.
3. Share your name, introduce your pieces, and tell us something fun/unexpected about yourself. If there is a specific role or show/s you are interested in, please state that.
4. Your headshot and resume. Any clear, recent photo is fine if you don’t have a current headshot.
5. Submit your audition to info@sonomaartslive.org with the subject line - “General auditions”.
Please submit by May 10th. You’ll be emailed directly regarding in-person callbacks.

All actors are volunteers and receive a stipend for food and travel expenses-$150 (ensemble), $250 (featured role), and $500 (lead roles in a musical). We are not accepting Equity contracts at this time.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SAL:
We have a team of professionals backstage. You are in good hands. Our theater, just blocks from Sonoma’s historic plaza filled with tasting rooms and unique shops, is 110 years old with a beautiful proscenium arch. It seats 99 on the floor, with additional balcony seating. We have a full-time Artistic Director, an Executive Director, and longtime staff running lights and sound with our own equipment. Our theater company has won multiple TBA awards, Marquee Theater Journalists awards, and SFBATCC awards.
All of our staff are fully vaccinated. Our theater features six HEPA filtration systems and one for our dressing room. Our theater is professionally cleaned.
We are always hoping to showcase new faces. Don’t let the distance keep you from submitting. We can help with housing in the Wine Country.
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (MUSICAL)
Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally, just to throw you off), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds. Got all that?! All the characters you loved from the ’70s classic film come to life hysterically in song. LITTLE WOMEN (MUSICAL)
Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel is brought to glorious musical life in this tale of the indomitable March girls of Concord, Massachusetts. In a time of great social upheaval, Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth grow from childhood to womanhood through the trials, tragedies, and triumphs of America divided by Civil War, and this journey comes to life beautifully in song. Josephine “Jo” March - female-presenting, mix/belt - Age 18 to 23
Our story's protagonist. Passionate, adventurous, and brave. She has the idea of writing Little Women and eventually becomes engaged to Professor Bhaer.
Beth March - female-presenting, soprano - Age 17 to 21
The second youngest sister who tragically dies of scarlet fever. Peacemaker, lover, and an optimist who is always encouraging her sisters to dream. Doubles in Jo's story as "Rodrigo."
Amy March - female-presenting, soprano - Age 14 to 18
The youngest, most energetic sister, with a rather pompous air about her. Doubles in Jo's story as "troll."
Meg March - female-presenting, soprano - Age 21 to 25
The world-weary, yet hopeful, oldest sister who yearns for a great life. She marries John and has twins with him. Doubles in Jo's story as "Clarissa."
Marmee March - female-presenting, mezzo-soprano - Age 40 to 50
The girls' mother. She is the strong backbone of the family and is courageous despite the difficult odds she faces. Doubles in Jo’s story as "hag."
Mr. John Brooke - male-presenting, tenor - Age 25 to 35
Laurie's tutor and a rather stiff man; shows very little emotion. He later marries Meg and changes.
Professor Bhaer - male-presenting, baritone - Age 30 to 40
German professor who exemplifies proper manners. He is a boarder in Mrs. Kirk's boarding house and eventually falls in love with Jo.
Laurie Laurence - male-presenting, tenor - Age 18 to 23
The bright-eyed boy next door with considerable charm. He loves Jo but later falls in love with Amy.
Aunt March - female-presenting, soprano - Age 45 to 60
A formidable, overbearing matron and great-aunt to the March sisters. A wealthy socialite in town. Doubles as Mrs. Kirk.
Mr. Laurence - male-presenting, baritone - Age 55 to 65
Laurie’s grandfather. Stern, patrician, and straight-laced.
SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION (DRAMA)
Inspired by a true story, the play follows the trail of a young African American con man, Paul, who insinuates himself into the lives of a wealthy New York couple, Ouisa and Flan Kittredge, claiming he knows their son from college. Paul tells them he is the son of actor Sidney Poitier, and that he has just been mugged and all his money is gone. Captivated by Paul’s intelligence and his fascinating conversation (and the possibility of appearing in a new Sidney Poitier movie), the Kittredges invite him to spend the night, and things go irretrievably awry. The result is a drama with plenty of amusing moments to ponder. Directed by Libby Oberlin (Anne of Green Gables).

Ouisa (Louisa) Kittredge - female-presenting - Age 40 plus
Smart, insightful, urbane, witty, attractive and stylish, she is ultimately a deeply thoughtful person with enormous reserves of compassion.
Flan (Flanders) Kittredge - male-presenting – Age 40 plus
Attractive, sophisticated, a successful art dealer who possesses a cutthroat zest for the high stakes of the art world; however, the passion he once felt for the art itself has been supplanted by his competitive interest in the wealth it can earn for him.
Kitty - female-presenting - Age 40 plus
Married to Larkin; she and Larkin are friends of the Kittredges – their children went to boarding school together – and they move in similar NYC social circles; they too end up being taken in by Paul’s charms.
Larkin - male-presenting - Age 40 plus
He and Kitty are friends of the Kittredges as their children went to boarding school together-- and they move in similar NYC social circles; they too end up being taken in by Paul’s charms; WASPy, very concerned with his position in the world.
Dr. Fine - male-presenting - Age 40 plus
Divorced Jewish obstetrician at New York Hospital; his son Doug, with whom he has a strained relationship, went to boarding school with the Kittredges' children.
Talbott (Tess) Kittredge - female-presenting - Age 20s
The Kittredge’s daughter. Articulate, self-involved and privileged. She can barely contain her contempt and judgment for her parents’ every action and utterance.
Woody Kittredge - male-presenting - Age 20s
The Kittredge’s son. Currently at Harvard. Also self-absorbed and intolerant. Preppy with an athletic build. Also furious with his parents.
Ben - male-presenting - Age 20s
Kitty and Larkin’s son, brimming with post-adolescent contempt toward his parents, who he thinks are utter fools.
Doug Fine - male-presenting - Age 20s
Dr. Fine’s son; went to boarding school with the Kittredges' children; currently attending Dartmouth. He is enraged and appalled when he discovers that his father, with whom he never had a good relationship, has been taken in by Paul.
Trent - male-presenting - Age 20s, can also double as the hustler
Attended the same high school as the Kittredge children; had an affair with Paul during which (in flashback) he teaches Paul all about the privileged New York families he knew and about the lifestyle of New York’s wealthy families; sly and opportunistic; a genius of sorts, he never fit into the world in which he grew up.
Rick - male-presenting - Age 20s
Idealistic and passionate young actor and singer who moves to New York from Utah with his girlfriend, Elizabeth, in pursuit of their art; he and Elizabeth befriend Paul after meeting him in Central Park.
Elizabeth - female-presenting - Age 20s
Idealistic young actress who moves to New York from Utah with her boyfriend, Rick, in pursuit of their art; she and Rick befriend Paul in Central Park and believe his story about being Flan’s estranged son; attractive, warm, open, earnest, forthright, upstanding, ultimately practical.
Hustler - male-presenting - Age 20 plus
Male hustler, shocks Ouisa when she discovers him naked and in flagrante delicto with Paul in her bed.
Detective - male-presenting - Age 30 plus
NYPD detective who interviews all the victims who have been taken in by Paul.
Policeman/Doorman - male-presenting - Age 30 plus
New York doorman of the Upper East Side apartment where Flan and Ouisa live; escorts the injured Paul in when he first shows up on the Kittredges' doorstep. Doubles as NYPD cop who is called to Dr. Fine’s home to arrest Paul after Dr. Fine discovers he’s been duped.

Off-Broadway’s longest-running revue in history has been revised for the 21st century and is coming to the SAL stage. This celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as “the relationship.” Through sketches and songs, we explore the journey from dating to love to marriage – and then some. RUMORS (COMEDY BY NEIL SIMON)
At a large, tastefully appointed Snedens Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of farce. As they gather for their hosts’ tenth wedding anniversary, the husband lies bleeding in the other room and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken, and wife Chris must get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. Ernie’s wife and a cooking show host with a bad back. She has a very dramatic, physical personality.
DIRTY, ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS (MUSICAL)
Based on the popular Steve Martin movie of the 1980s, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels takes us to the French Riviera for high jinks and hilarity. Two con men, a beautiful woman, and the elite meet. What can go wrong? After meeting on a train, they attempt to work together, only to find that this small French town isn’t big enough for the three of them. Directed by Carl Jordan (Sylvia)

Freddy Benson - male-presenting, tenor - Age 20s‐30s
A young, clever, aspiring American con artist. He is a sloppy, yet an attractive womanizer. Has a romance with Christine.
Jolene Oaks - female-presenting, mezzo alto - Age 20s‐30s
An American heiress from Oklahoma and the "Princess of Petroleum," she is very eager, optimistic, and energetic. Blend of a Southern firecracker and a Southern belle. Dialect: Southern.
Andre Thibault - male-presenting, baritone - Age 30s‐50s
Lawrence's French assistant. Official and mostly serious, he has a light‐hearted nature and a quirky sense of humor. Has a romance with Muriel. Dialect: French.
Muriel Eubanks - female-presenting, alto - Age 30s‐50s
A wealthy and attractive American socialite from Nebraska, she’s one of Lawrence's victims and Andre's subsequent love interest. Dialects: Omaha, Nebraska/General American.
Christine Colgate - female-presenting, mezzo-soprano - Age 20s‐40s
A seemingly good‐natured American heiress, vacationing on the French Riviera, with a huge secret. Naive and clueless at first, she becomes cunning and mischievous. Has a romance with Freddy. Dialect: General American.
Ensemble - either gender, various ages, vocal ranges, and dialects.
Will be playing multiple roles, such as tourists/citizens, maids/butlers/wait staff, business roles, con artist victims, and atmospheric individuals. There are multiple opportunities for featured/solo singing, dance, and dialogue moments.
